  Cyclone Nargis Disaster Relief Activities  
  Formation of Cyclone Nargis Disaster Relief Committee Disaster Relief Committee (DRC) headed by the President of Myanmar Medical Association (Central).  
     
  Objectives  
 
  1. Emergency Relief Medical Care at disaster areas by medical teams
  2. Develop Relief Fund with donation from MMA members, specialist societies' contribution, pharmaceutical companies, International agencies donors and well wishers in the country.
  3. Distribution of foods, water, clothes, utensils and medicines directly to the victims.
  4. Close collaboration with WHO, UNFPA, 3Ds Fund and INGOs for short term projects with the aim of sustainable relief medical care, prevention and the control of outbreak of communicable diseases.
 
     
  Resources  
  MMA, the only professional NGO of doctors, has diverse medical resources with more than 8000 members throughout the countries including government service doctors, specialists and general practitioners where the latter contributes two third of the total numbers.MMA has a large numbers of volunteer doctors who are contributing to the activities at all level for disaster relief.  
     
  Budget  
  Fund raising activities was driven by the Disaster Relief Committee with various ways and means within the umbrella of MMA policies, guidelines and managed by its rule. According to the local currency, each full trip is estimated to cost about 30 lakhs (30,00000) kyats.  
     
  Current Activities  
 
Short trips and long trips are made by volunteer medical teams that were equipped with essential medicine, medical equipments, donated foods, utensils, clothes etc. Travelling to the disaster areas, villages in Ayeyarwaddy and Yangon Division by coach, or boat, with own arrangement. Divisional MMA Committees are also implementing activities for disaster relief.

  Future Plan  
  Myanmar Medical Association is planning to organize the long term medical care and health care activities for the victims by collaborating with the local, INGOs and UN Agencies.
 
     
  Information for Medical Volunteers  
  MMA warmly welcome your contributions in Nargis Storm disaster relief activities. MMA need medical doctors to volunteer in Medical teams visiting to disastrous areas in Ayeyarwaddy Division and Yangon Division. MMA assigns volunteers in day-trip medical tour, short-trip medical tour (3-5 days) and full trip medical tour (7 days or more) to give medical care for the victims.
