Alumni Myanmar Institutes of Medicine Association (AMIMA) is a nonprofit organization incorporated in the state of Pennsylvania . The corporation is organized for the purpose of providing charitable giving to nonprofit organizations promoting health, economic development and humanitarian aid in impoverished countries.
It was founded by our chairman Dr. Thane Oke Kyaw Myint, a retired pediatrician, who is living in Canberra, Australia. It all started with one suggestion from a former student, agreement from the initial 13 moderators, and final decision by our chairman in April of 2006. Since then, a small group growed into a group of think tank for our country and an ordinary purpose transformed into noble humanitarian determination. We can make the landmarked anniversary with our first annals which is also a web magazine. We met our old teachers, old friends and at the same time we made a lot of new friends. We exchange not only our friendship but also our knowledge, our arts and dedications. We become involved in different humanitarian works for our mother land, such as donations for DHF, and Burma Medical Library. Helping the poor and/or unfortunate ones become our moral guidelines and improving the healthcare standard become our goal.
With Dr. Thane Oke Kyaw Myint's leadership and our patrons' guidance, the small group become a group of 700 member doctors across the world. But we are not satisfied with what we have and the active members determined to do more for our people within our capacity. The starting of the website is another landmark and most of us are excited to become a unified organization which will march hand in hand with other sister organizations towards the goal.
